SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- October 1, 2026 -- Innovaccer today announced that Paul M. Black, former CEO of Allscripts and former Chief Operating Officer of Cerner, has joined its Board of Directors. Black brings more than four decades of healthcare technology leadership and his experience of a board member/ADVISOR to more than eight artificial intelligence companies to Innovaccer's board at a pivotal moment in the company's growth, as Innovaccer expands its autonomous healthcare operations platform across health systems, payers, and government health organizations nationally.
Black served as President and CEO of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions from December 2012 through May 2022, leading one of the largest healthcare IT companies in the world through a decade of transformation in how clinical and operational data flows across the healthcare system. Prior to Allscripts, Black spent more than thirteen years at Cerner Corporation, where he served as Chief Sales Officer and ultimately Chief Operating Officer, playing a central role in building Cerner into a healthcare IT market leader with more than $1.5 billion in annual revenues. He began his career at IBM, where he spent twelve years in senior leadership positions spanning sales, marketing, and professional services. Across his career Black has served on multiple publicly traded, private, and nonprofit boards spanning healthcare information technology, patient monitoring, healthcare services, and care delivery organizations, including sixteen years as Chairman of Truman Medical Centers, an academic safety net health system.
Black's perspective on where healthcare technology is heading is directly aligned with Innovaccer's mission. He has observed firsthand the industry's shift from disconnected systems that were never designed to share information, to a new era in which the electronic health record evolves from a passive input device maintained by clinicians and administrators into an active output device — one that listens, searches across platforms, and surfaces what a care team needs before they have to ask for it. That vision of a connected, intelligent, and interoperable healthcare infrastructure is precisely the problem Innovaccer's Healthcare Autonomy Platform is built to solve: unifying clinical, claims, financial, and operational data into a single context layer and deploying autonomous AI agents to execute the administrative and operational work that has historically consumed healthcare's capacity. That is the chassis the industry has been waiting for someone to build, and that is exactly the work Paul is joining Innovaccer's board to advance.
"Healthcare has been on a long journey from paper to digital, and the next chapter is making that digital infrastructure actually intelligent," said Paul M. Black, incoming Innovaccer Board Member. "The systems we built over the past two decades captured the data. What Innovaccer is doing is turning that data into action, connecting it across every system a health organization runs on and deploying AI that can execute the work, not just surface the insight. That is the shift the industry has been waiting for, and I am proud to join the board to help build that architecture for the industry."
"Paul has spent more than forty years at the center of how healthcare technology gets built and deployed at scale, and he has seen every stage of this industry's evolution from the inside," said Abhinav Shashank, Co-founder and CEO of Innovaccer. "What he understands better than almost anyone is that the data layer is what determines whether AI delivers or disappoints. We are building the industry infrastructure for Autonomous Healthcare Operations that every health system and payer will run on and having Paul on our board to help shape that chassis is exactly the kind of leadership and perspective that moment requires."
